DAY 01: MEXICO CITY
We welcome you at Mexico City International Airport. There is time to exchange money before your transfer to the Hotel Ritz, located at the historical center. Welcome margarita at the hotel and a free afternoon to relax.
DAY 02: MEXICO CITY
Breakfast buffet at the hotel, then we head out to admire the colorful altars of the Day of the Dead – Día de los Muertos – at the Dolores Olmedo House-Museum.
Celebration of the Day of Dead in November 1 & 2 in Mexico
After a guided visit with plenty of free time to explore these spectacular altars and displays of Mexican tradition, we will continue to the popular Floating Gardens of Xochimilco.
Day of the Dead celebration is on the first week of November,
Any other time of the year this tour will be substituted for a visit to Frida Kahlo Museum.
In Xochimilco we will enjoy a delicious picnic lunch in a gondola or “trajinera” navigating through the canals. A traditional meal will be served on board accompanied by rhythm of “mariachi” music and tequila and refreshing Mexican beer. There is free time for shopping before returning to your hotel. Dinner on your own.
DAY 03: MEXICO CITY
Breakfast buffet at the hotel. Then, we make our way to the most visited church in the Americas: Our Lady of Guadalupe Shrine. This is an opportunity to learn about the different religious aspects of Mexican culture.
Next, we go to the outskirts of the city to visit the largest pre-Hispanic ceremonial center in this continent: Teotihuacan. This impressive archaeological site, 2,000 years old, will give us an idea of the grandeur of ancient Mexico.
As we arrive at Teotihuacan, we will have an interesting demonstration of “pulque”, a traditional beverage in ancient Mesoamerica, as well as a demonstration of local crafts in an obsidian workshop.
After the obsidian demonstration, we will enjoy an extensive lunch buffet, including musical entertainment and indigenous dances in a Mexican restaurant.
A very interesting guided tour and free time to climb up the spectacular pyramids of the Sun and the Moon, then back to our hotel.
This evening, we will enjoy a very special typical Mexican dinner at the renowned restaurant “Café Tacuba” within walking distance from our hotel.
DAY 04: MEXICO CITY
Breakfast buffet at the hotel.
Interesting walking tour in the historical center of the city, including the frescoes of the famous Mexican artist Diego Rivera at the National Palace. Also a visit to the Metropolitan Cathedral and the Main Aztec Temple among some other impressive buildings.
A special lunch at the elegant colonial restaurant Sanborns Azulejos.
A free afternoon for relaxing, strolling around, sightseeing in an open-deck “Turibus”, taking a ride in a “bici-taxi” or taste good coffee or beer in one of the numerous bars or terrace cafés downtown.
In the evening, we will be delighted with the most colorful and spectacular Folk show in Mexico, the famous “Ballet Folklórico Nacional” at the superb Fine Arts Palace, located within a walking distance from our hotel.
Back to the hotel.
DAY 05: TAXCO
TAXCO – PUEBLO MAGICO / XOCHICALCO – PATRIMONIO UNESCO
Breakfast buffet at the hotel then check-out and head to the Pueblo Mágico of Taxco.
Halfway, we will have an interesting guided tour at the archaeological zone of Xochicalco to admire the ball games courts, the impressive pyramid of the Feather Serpents and the plazas, among others. Xochicalco is one of the most beautiful archaeological sites in Mexico. It has been declared a World heritage by UNESCO.
In Taxco, we will serve a delicious lunch, including a regional drink on a terrace restaurant with an incredible view.
After lunch, we will visit the beautiful colonial church of Santa Prisca and the native market, as well as a couple silversmith boutiques. Free time to enjoy Taxco.
In the afternoon, we will have lots of fun in a “bug ride”, the local Volkswagen taxis, to the spectacular lookout point of Taxco and then the cable car that will take us to the best hotel in town, Monte Taxco Hotel. This is located at the top of a mountain with gorgeous views over this colonial city. Dinner at the hotel.
DAY 06: GUANAJUATO
Guanajuato has been declared World Heritage by UNESCO
We will start the day with breakfast and then make our way to the most impressive caverns in Mexico, “Las Grutas de Cacahuamilpa”, for a tour. These have been many times compared with those of Carlsbad, New Mexico.
After the caves, we will enjoy a tasty box lunch and continue to Guanajuato.
Arrival at the colonial City of Real de Minas de Santa Fe de Guanajuato… Check-in at Holiday Inn Hotel.
Free time to relax at the hotel or swim in the indoor pool. Dinner on your own.
DAY 07: GUANAJUATO
Breakfast buffet at the hotel.
Today we will visit the major attractions in Guanajuato: underground streets, “La Olla” dam, the look-out point at “El Pípila”, the Funicular, Juarez Theater, Alley of the Kiss, among others.
Lunch at the upscale restaurant, Casa Valadez, with a margarita
Free time to stroll around downtown Guanajuato, then back to the hotel for a break.
This evening grand fiesta with the “estudiantina”: Young musician students, dressed in Spanish XVII century customs will accompany us as we walk along the cobbled streets and alleys of Guanajuato enjoying the serenade and drinking “porrones” of fine wine, while offering red roses to the señoritas… This is called “callejoneada”.
Dinner on your own. Return to our hotel.
DAY 08: GUADALAJARA
Breakfast buffet at the hotel, then we check-out and continue on to Guadalajara.
Guadalajara is home of the Mariachi, of rodeos, tequila and good humor. In its historical Center, we find plenty of parks, monuments, flower gardens, and gracious homes.
Upon our arrival we will visit the Barrio of Tlaquepaque and enjoy typical regional dishes including a local drink; all of this while enjoying the sounds of Mariachi
Tlaquepaque is known for its friendly ambiance and its streets are closed to traffic. Here we find many boutiques, art galleries and cafés. There is free time for shopping or relaxing.
Check-in the Hotel Morales, an elegant colonial building located in the heart of the city. Dinner on your own.
DAY 09 GUADALAJARA
Breakfast buffet at our hotel, then we depart for the magical town of Tequila. Upon arrival we will watch a video on the farming of tequila and a guided tour of the old Casa Cuervo, a famous tequila hacienda; tequila samples and a margarita will be served. Time to shop for tequila and local arts and crafts.
Depart for Teuchitlan where we will enjoy a meal at a typical restaurant by the lake. Including a drink.
Return to our hotel and get ready for our special Mexican farewell dinner at La Fonda de San Miguel Arcángel. Horse-drawn buggies will be part of the fun!
Return to our hotel.
DAY 10: PUERTO VALLARTA or USA
Breakfast buffet at the hotel.
Transfer to Guadalajara International Airport or transfer from Guadalajara to the Hotel Zone of Puerto Vallarta.
